Spicy Maple Chicken Wings

October 27, 2012 by Ariel 14 Comments

Oohhh chicken wings.. I LOVE them in so many ways and only one post on wings cant even come close to show how amazing and versatile these little things are. This is the first post of many wings recipes. Perfect as an appetizer or to serve during football season, these spicy maple chicken wings are definitely a crowd pleaser.

– INGREDIENTS –

Raw Chicken wings (10-12)

For the Glaze:

1 tablespoon of maple syrup

1 tablespoon of brown sugar

1 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil

1/2 teaspoon of flax seed oil

1 teaspoon of garlic powder

2 teaspoons of paprika

2 teaspoons of chili powder

1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper powder

1/2 teaspoon of onion powder

1/2 teaspoon of dried parsley flakes

1 teaspoon of hoisin sauce

1- Pre-heat your oven at 375. In a medium mixing bowl, mix all the glaze ingredients together before putting your chicken wings in the bowl. Rotate everything to make sure each wings is well covered with the glaze.

2- On a small baking sheet, line an aluminium paper. Put the wings on it and bake them for 30 minutes.

3- After the first 30 minutes, rotate the wings and add more sauce on top. Bake again for an extra 15 minutes.

How important is hoisin sauce? I have never heard of it.

It is actually because it has a very distinct flavor and the texture help the marinade ๐Ÿ™‚

Basically the money for everything ;_; Hahaha, I am going to see what I can do about at least trying to make these sometime though. I don’t have any GOOD maple syrup that I can get around here I don’t think… Also, rather than cayenne pepper powder, I’d be willing to try something with a bit more bite when it comes to spice. Do you know any peppers that I could use that have more heat, but still have a fair balance of flavor to counter-act that increase?

Tried these last night for the game, enjoyed them but had a problem. The initial blast of flavor and heat you got were great but that lasted for a bit and then it just became a bland flavor of just chicken. Don’t know if I should have let the chicken sit more in the glaze, needed more glaze, or cooked them a tiny bit too long (if it was it was only like a few minutes more then what you said). But I do want to try them again.

was them? You’re the first comment of the sort I hear, nobody else had a problem.
Maybe the added cooking time could be a factor since the taste of the spices can be alter if we leave them in the oven too long but if not maybe try to let them in the marinade longer? ๐Ÿ™‚

I was actually thinking for my next batch to prick a few holes in the raw wings first and then let them marinate for a day before cooking them. Let me know how it turned out ๐Ÿ™‚

Love the wings ! however I Kicked it up a bit. I fired up the Bucket List Smoker and put about 2 hours of a Hickory/Cherry wood smoke on the wings(low heat). I followed your recipe but for my Pepper Head friends I dusted part of the wings with ground Jalapeno and some with ground Habanero prior to finishing in the oven. You as is recipe is great thanks for sharing.

Wow. I tried this recipe with only a couple of alterations and, boy, is it good. I had chicken thighs instead of wings, so I opted to diced onion and garlic as well as fresh parsley. I mixed it all together and baked it. Thanks for the great recipe! ๐Ÿ™‚
